The Colombo Magistrate's Court has rejected the request to release two men, including the director of W.M Mendis Company, Arjun Aloysius who was sentenced to six months in prison for VAT evasion on bail.
The Magistrate has mentioned that it is not a criminal case as it is an alternative punishment imposed on these respondents. Therefore, the magistrate has said that the bail request will be rejected.
Arjun Aloysius and two others were recently arrested in connection with an incident of evading the payment of VAT of 3.5 billion rupees due to the government.
